Sciatica

Sciatica is truly one of the biggest misnomers used in common conversation. In true sciatica, the pain pattern extends from the knee down into the back and side of the leg and down into the foot. People complaining of low back pain that radiates down the buttock, thigh and then down into the knee are not describing what is medically known as "sciatica." What they are experiencing referred pain from the lumbar or sacroiliac (low back) joints sending nerve impulses that radiate the pain into the extremities. In my experience, these cases of "sciatica," there is nothing more to correct than the unstable mechanics of the sacroiliac and lumbar spine, and once these abberations are balanced the pain is eliminated.
